She said that in order to maintain a healthy heart and brain, we need to check our cholesterol numbers.

As a cardiologist, she has been facing thousands of patients with high cholesterol. She suggests that only pills can’t resist this situation. What we intake is also crucial for maintaining a heart-healthy life.

Highly processed foods can influence your bad cholesterol.  If we have high cholesterol, we should limit the excessive use of certain foods.

She revealed about four foods that we need to avoid from our food list. They are:-

  • Red Meat

There are a number of fast foods using red meat as the main ingredient in their recipes. It includes a variety of dishes such as burgers, sandwiches, pork chops, etc.

The cardiologist says that try to focus on small amounts of lean meat. We can’t totally avoid the cravings which contain red meats. But we can reduce the amount of red meat consumption.

Most people are obsessed with red meat. But what if it increases our high cholesterol? We should take care of the consumption of red meat. Therefore, consuming red meat once a week will be better for our health.

Poultry contains saturated fat. We may think chicken can replace red meat. But excessive consumption of meat is harmful to our health. 

We can fill this gap by adding fish and shellfish. There are plenty of options for replacing the meat. Plants and fishes are some of the best alternatives you can use instead of meat.

Some of the white fleshes fish like tilapia, halibut, cod, and bass are rich in protein and they have similar functions as red meat and chicken do.

Doctors suggest that avoiding deep-fried foods is better for heart health. High cholesterol may lead to high-risk factors such as cardiovascular disease. The oils used for frying are rich in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol. They are absorbed by the foods. 

The cardiologist suggests that try to taste baked potatoes, kale, or broccoli to a crisp instead of using fried items. Avoiding fat-content foods is helpful for maintaining our LDL cholesterol level in the body.

  • Processed meat

Processed meat is loaded with high amounts of saturated fat. Excessive intake of processed meat may risk your life. It increased the rates of heart disease and cancer also.

The world health organization has classified processed meat such as sausage, salami, and hot dogs are high in cholesterol and they contain high saturated fat.

Dr. Klodas also added there are some other foods that we can use instead of these processed meats. oats, beans, and other natural products are best for satisfying our hunger.

However, sometimes we need sausages or a hot dog. That’s quite normal. But what we need to do is consume these products on special occasion treats.

  • Baked goods

Baked goods such as cookies, cakes, pastry are made with high quantities of butter. These products are considered high in cholesterol.

Cakes and pastries are loaded with calories and low in nutrients. The baked products are filled with saturated fat, sugar, and shortening. These contents are influencing the high cholesterol level in the body.

We don’t need to give up the desserts entirely. There are some alternatives that make better health. When we make home-baked products, use apple sauce or bananas in the place of butter and also control the amount of sugar and fat used while making.
